The Rays are limping home after a rough road trip in Texas but still have the best record in the league but returning home is not the best thing for the Rays. The Rays are 15-12 at home this year and face a tough Blue Jays squad that is coming off a strong series against the Yankees and find themselves in the middle of the AL East race.
The Rays will send Jeff Niemann to the mound tonight in hopes that he can continue his dominance of the Jays, who have lost 17 of the last 23 at the Trop. Jays will counter with Brian Tallet who has a strong and lively arm, which will give the Rays some issues.
The Rays lineup is forever changing. During the Texas series, Maddon put Jaso at the lead off spot, started Kelly Shoppach at catcher, and used Navarro later for defensive purposes, 3 catchers in one game? Sean Rodriguez is struggling while BJ Upton is beginning to swing the bat better. Pena sees his average dropping and Blalock can't find the field at all. Maddon continues to puzzle the fans with his constant lineup changes but with the best record in MLB, no one has told him he is wrong yet. The Rays are still without Jason Bartlett, who is nursing the hamstring injury.
Let's hope the Rays continue to pull it together and keep the lead against the rest of the surging AL East.
