Pac-10 Still Looking....

The Pac-"10" Conference was turned down by the rest of the former Big 12 Conference the other day, stopping what could have been a super conference and a money making machine. The Pac-10 is still looking to expand to 12 teams to have a championship game and generate more revenue for the schools, so now they must turn their attention to another conference, there eye is on the Mountain West Conference, the team, Utah.

University of Utah is rumored to have already been offered an invitation to the Pac-10, but Utah is denying all claims, at this point at least. Utah would give the Pac-10 the required 12 teams to have its championship game and a way to great a new television network as well as sell more tickets to extended games.

Utah is a very interesting team and in a conference that is looking to build its reputation by adding Boise State, a BCS buster ever single year. Along with TCU, the Mountain West is a strong conference. So would Utah leave it to move to the new Pac-10? The answer, most likely. Utah is an up and coming program that has been on the national stage and plays against Pac-10 teams frequently, last season it played tough but eventually lost to the Oregon Ducks. Utah is a decent sized television marketing area and combined with the Denver networks with the University of Colorado joining, the Pac-10 will be able to expand into the Rockies and generate more presence there as well as more money.

Will Utah leave soon? Nothing at this point is certain if they will make the move to the Pac-10, but if they do, the changes will not occur until the 2011 season. They will still be in the Mountain West this season and no new network deals will be made until after the season is over. So the Pac-"10" will stay the way it is...for now.
