Maddon, STOP IT!!

Coach Maddon, please, please, please stop messing with the lineup card every single game.

Last night Maddon started Kelly Shoppach, the reserve catcher that is fresh of the DL and a minor league rehab stint. Shoppach went 0 for 4 and struggled to keep up with anything Toronto threw at him. While John Jaso, who is hitting over .400 against the Jays, sat on the bench collecting dust. Even Navarro was probably taking nap due to the frequent time on the bench.

Maddon is a smart man, probably too smart for his own good and over thinks everything on the playing field. His lineup has been different for every single game this season and there is no answer for it. He had Jaso leading off against Texas and it worked but in one game he used all 3 catchers, what was the reason for it? Maddon needs to stick with a lineup that has speed up top and consistent power at the bottom, where is Hank Blalock at these days? The lead off spot has been Bartlett's but his injury forced Maddon's hand, but using a catcher to lead off? Fans love Maddon but often question his micro-managing of the team, inning to inning, pitch to pitch.

Maddon, please calm down. Let your players play baseball, its what they are paid for, you are not the one out there pitching. Yes, you are the coach, not the general manager. Pick a real leadoff hitter, decide on a catcher so they can build a routine with the pitching staff, and let the hitters get into a groove in the batting order, instead of dropping them from 1st to 9th in a game! Everyone loves coach Maddon and he has done an amazing job with the team and managing it through the last few years but he just needs to let the professionals do there job, play baseball.
