Jason Bartlett, the starting short stop for the Rays may be headed to the DL after straining his hamstring in Saturday's lose to the White Sox. The injury came as he fielded a routine round ball out but seemed to tweak the muscle. He came up for is next at bat and after grounding out, left the game because he felt the muscle was not right. Coach Maddon was hoping he would return by Friday but the injury is not healing as fast as many were hoping and a 15 day DL stint may be in the future for Bartlett who is a solid defender and lead off hitter for the Rays.
The Rays moved BJ Upton to lead off last night in a win against the Jays, in which he went 2 for 4 with a walk and stolen base. Bartlett, who has been the lead off hitter, has been moved around recently in the lineup as he struggles to find his swing, hitting just .240 for most of the year. The Rays have Reid Brignac and Sean Rodriguez they can move around, Brignac is hitting over .300 and Rodriguez had the go ahead runs last night with his double in the top of the 9th. There have been no set backs in the recovery and right now the muscle is 50-50 but a DL stint is most likely in the future for Jason. Let us hope he can recover fast and return to the lineup and field, the Rays need his pressence and glove on the field if they want to continue to lead the AL east.
