Junior running back Mike Ford has been dismissed from the team due to an unspecified violation of team rules, according to coach Holtz. The violation will not be released but Holtz hopes that Ford can get his life on track. Ford has apologized for disappointing the fans, school and coaches and will stay in school in order to obtain his degree next year.
Ford, a highly recruited player by USF became a fan favorite in just his freshmen year, going for over 600 yards and 12 touchdowns, many thought it was the second coming of Andre Hall, but it was not to be. Ford never ran for over 500 yards in a season again, battling injuries and academic issues, as well as off field problems. In the International Bowl game, he put the team on his back and ran for over 200 yards, showing how good he could be, if he ever got his head on straight.
Ford leaves and it might be better for the program to do so. He could have been the feature back this year but the depth behind him is great, Lamar, Taylor, Hayes, and the list goes on, even Moe Plancher might be back for a 6th year, so the team will be fine and hopefully Ford can get his life in order and succeed with his degree, good luck Mike and thanks for your hard work with the team.
